My husband and I attended the 12th annual Young Playwrights Festival tonight. I wrote about watching this as a healing moment last year. This year, I reconnected with friends, and was able to see a diverse audience that only comes when kids in our community’s school are involved.
Our local public radio station did a great preview earlier this week on Lehigh Valley Arts Salon. The hosts, Kate Scuffle and George Miller are familiar with the program, so they asked insightful questions and allowed the guests time to answer. This interview gives folks a much better peek into the Young Playwrights’ Lab; not just the festival event, but the literacy program that engages the kids.
I took a quick video from the back, and slowed it down for the view to try to see the audience as a blend of our community: parents, teachers, sponsors, youth and art advocates, and people who care about art in our community.
Next time you’re at a lively arts program, look at the audience. Who is in it and why?
